Eric O’Neill joined the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in May 2026 after building an unusual college path through Long Island, James Madison, and Rutgers. At Rutgers in 2025, he started all 12 games and recorded 37 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Before reaching the FBS level, O’Neill produced major numbers at James Madison and LIU. His 2024 season at James Madison included 13 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss, while his LIU career earned him NEC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2023.
