With a 45+ year legacy in higher education, KL University continues to extend learning beyond the classroom through initiatives that address community needs. As part of this effort, the university’s National Service Scheme (NSS) and Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) conducted a door-to-door nutrition awareness drive in Pedavadlapudi, Mangalagiri Mandal, encouraging families to make informed food choices and adopt everyday practices that support better health.
The campaign brought NSS volunteers and faculty members directly into the community, where they interacted with residents and shared practical guidance on balanced diets. Discussions focused on incorporating green leafy vegetables, other vegetables, fruits, pulses, and millets into daily meals, highlighting how accessible food choices can support a more nutritious diet.
Particular attention was given to the nutritional needs of children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and senior citizens. Volunteers highlighted the importance of adequate nutrition during different stages of life, including its role in children’s growth and development. The discussions also addressed concerns such as anaemia and encouraged families to pay closer attention to the dietary needs of vulnerable members.
Moving beyond food choices, the awareness drive covered the role of food safety, safe drinking water, and personal hygiene in maintaining good health. Faculty members shared simple, practical measures that households can incorporate into their daily routines, helping translate general health awareness into actionable steps.
The initiative reflects KL University’s approach to connecting academic learning with social responsibility. Through community engagement programmes, students get opportunities to interact with people, understand local concerns, and apply their learning in ways that serve society.
For institutions aspiring to be among the best universities in India, contributing to society is an important part of the educational experience. KL University’s nutrition awareness drive in Pedavadlapudi, among many other initiatives, highlights this extremely well.
