Elegance Designed for Your Home

Setauket’s blend of historic charm and natural beauty makes it a wonderful place to enjoy outdoor living. A custom paving stone patio provides an elegant setting for relaxing, dining, and entertaining while complementing the character of your home. Unlike standard designs, custom patios are planned around your property’s layout, your architectural style, and how you want to use the space. Whether your home is a classic colonial or a contemporary design, a custom patio can create an outdoor retreat that feels refined, welcoming, and perfectly suited to your lifestyle and surroundings.

Designing with Setauket’s Character in Mind

Setauket homes range from historic colonial residences to modern builds nestled among trees. Custom patio design takes this variety into account. For historic homes, natural stone-look pavers, brick-style pavers, or bluestone create a classic, timeless appearance. For newer homes, larger-format pavers in clean greys offer a sleek, modern feel. Designers also consider the surrounding landscape, including mature trees, garden beds, and views of the water or woods. By respecting the home’s architecture and setting, a custom patio enhances the property’s natural character rather than competing with it.

Planning Spaces for Real Life

A custom patio is designed around how you live. Some families need a large dining area for gatherings, while others prefer intimate seating around a fire pit. You may want space for an outdoor kitchen, a hot tub, or a quiet reading corner. Designers help organise the patio into functional zones, using changes in pattern, colour, or level to define each area. Traffic flow between the house, patio, and garden is carefully planned. This thoughtful layout ensures the patio is comfortable, practical, and easy to enjoy every day.

Choosing Patterns and Finishes

Patterns and finishes give a custom patio its personality. Herringbone and basketweave patterns create a traditional, elegant look. Random ashlar patterns mimic natural stone and suit relaxed settings. Contrasting borders frame the patio and highlight its shape. Circular or fan patterns can create stunning focal points around fire features. Textured finishes add slip resistance and visual depth, while smooth finishes offer a contemporary feel. Combining colours and textures thoughtfully results in a patio that feels unique and refined, reflecting your personal taste while complementing your home and landscape.

Building on a Solid Foundation

Elegance must be supported by strong construction. Custom patios require proper excavation to remove soft soil and organic material. A thick, compacted base of crushed stone provides stability and drainage. A smooth layer of bedding sand allows pavers to be set evenly. The patio is graded slightly so water drains away from the home. Edge restraints keep pavers in place, and polymeric sand locks joints and reduces weeds. These steps are especially important on Long Island, where freeze-thaw cycles and heavy rain can cause poorly built patios to shift or sink.

Finishing Touches That Elevate the Space

Finishing touches transform a patio into an elegant outdoor living area. Seating walls built from matching stone provide extra seating while defining the space. Pillars with lighting add a grand entrance. Outdoor kitchens with stone counters make entertaining easy. Pergolas create shade and a sense of enclosure. Landscape lighting highlights textures and creates a warm atmosphere at night. Surrounding planting beds with flowers, shrubs, and ornamental trees soften hard edges and add colour. These details make the patio feel complete, inviting, and beautifully integrated into the landscape.
