The Legacy of the Sith expansion didn't live up to the expectations BioWare had hoped for. While positive reviews on Steam have risen since the update's release, reactions on official forums, Reddit, and Twitter have painted a very different picture. Players' questions were remarkably consistent: Legacy of the Sith's story ended quickly, with a lot of major bugs, dizzying UI changes, sweeping changes to classes, and now a step backwards in fighting style.

One of the main things in common is the size of the update. Having these as expansion packs has been met with an onslaught of criticism before, but the criticism seems to be louder now, with countless forum posts and replies calling for it. Meanwhile, on Twitter, players responded to tweets with sarcastic words, with plenty of hints of sarcasm. Basic abilities, stuff in the player's core loop, are mostly on hold, but there are several combat styles that do feel like they've been broken. Activating a different loadout requires the player to get out of combat and buy Star Wars The Old Republic Credits if the player wants to swap outside of a few specific areas, unlike having a practical single class.

There are also some odd inconsistencies, it's hard to tell if it's a bug, a missing asset, or an odd choice, like the new monochromatic icon that's neither as evocative nor as old as the old one clear. Old class symbols are the colored representations of these weapons and abilities that made them iconic: the Inquisitor's lightning bolt, the Bounty Hunter's flamethrower. The origin symbols that replaced them were black and white head graffiti: one with a hood, another with a hood, one with a hat, and some helmets. It looks especially odd in the new ability tree, where players can see the new solid blue icon next to the bright old one.

Reactions on Steam, at least when it comes to user reviews, are not that important. Reviews have naturally surged since the update was released, but the positives here far outweigh the negatives, with 158 positive versus 19 negative on February 15, and 106 to 69 a day later. However, recent positive reviews have not focused on the update, while the vast majority of negative reviews have specifically pointed this out. Meanwhile, on the Steam forums, the atmosphere was more pessimistic. However, this does not mean that players have to give up Legacy of the Sith. Players who want to make achievements in the game can still Buy SWTOR Credits on IGGM.
