"As we've been building the game, we felt it was possible to evolve sets in a new way relative to what we've observed from Diablo 3. But Diablo IV Gold, we needed some additional time to incorporate sets in the game in a way to blend well with the other elements of Diablo 4, so you aren't going to see them in the initial launch as part of the gameplay," Shely explains. "We consider sets to be cool, and we want to get them right, therefore, we're looking in the future for our live-stream service."

"There's a staff legendary in the demo that turns the spell's fireball into an all-fireball spell," Former game director Luis Barriga told Polygon(opens in new tab) back in 2019. "The thing that's different is that, as you can imagine, a set right now in the live version of Diablo 3 gives you bonuses which can be a million times more. I believe we're developing the game right now to be a more restricted to avoid entering that increasing energy curve."

If you're not sure with the term "set," Set Items are essentially strong items of equipment that provide greater power when they are constructed. They're "set" since they're always offering the same advantages, and, of course they're part of sets. They were first introduced in Diablo 2, though it was with Diablo 3 that they became really dominant. It remains to be seen what effect they'll have on how they affect the Diablo 4 meta should they be released, but we have no doubt that their impact on the Sanctuary's unfurling fashion scene will be felt.

The Diablo 4 beta hasn't convinced me yet, but I'm eager to try further (Set Items or not).
