World of Warcraft changes how trading items looted from dungeons and raid bosses between party members works in Dragonflight Patch 10.1.
World of Warcraft is evolving how Gear Trading works in Patch 10.1, Embers of Neltharion. While this change is a net positive for many World of Warcraft players, a little group might be in trouble when Patch 10.1 goes live.
Gear Trading may be the mechanic which allows players to freely exchange Soulbound drops from dungeons and raids along with other World of Warcraft players who have been eligible to loot the product. As it is now, the machine allows these items to be traded until 2 hours of video game time has elapsed, or until the product is equipped or sold.
A recent build from the Dragonflight Patch 10.1 Public Test Realm saw these rules changed slightly. Players have up to four hours to trade gear looted from the dungeon and raid bosses before it might be permanently Soulbound for them. However, this increased timer continues ticking whilst offline, instead of stopping before you log in again.
For most players, this change is a net positive–if it affects them whatsoever. Few players raid for more than four hours at any given time, which means this extended duration means they can focus on fighting bosses, while not having to lose momentum by stopping to distribute gear in the middle of raid night. The added flexibility helps you to save most casual World of Warcraft players some unneeded stress.
That said, a little group of players is going to be negatively affected by this transformation. Hardcore raiders and Mythic+ dungeon delvers in World of Warcraft sometimes freeze their loot by logging out before the weekly reset to determine their gear in the Great Vault to determine if a dungeon or raid drop could be useful for them. High-end World of Warcraft guilds who take part in races to world first will even suffer, as determining the optimal characters to provide gear to is really a process that sometimes takes hours as well as days. With the Gear Trading timer counting down whilst offline, these players will need to split loot quickly, possibly hurting their chances at claiming a world first.
Nevertheless, unless World of Warcraft reverses this decision, players will need to adapt to these new limitations with Gear Trading when they want to win the planet's first race. With Embers of Neltharion releasing on May 2, endgame raiders have only a few weeks before the next raid tier. Aberrus opens for World of Warcraft players on May 9, so world first racers will need to figure out how to adjust quickly. Luckily, Liquid, Method, and also the other major guilds will all suffer from this new restriction in their way, so everyone is going to be in an even arena.
